Description

Through PowerPoint presentation, role-playing, discussion and sharing of best practices,  this workshop will provide a context for the reality that our learners – adult and youth alike – live and work in, and how our understanding of and respect for that reality determines the productivity of our classrooms.  We will explore the conditions of life in the poorest communities in Philadelphia, and come to the understanding that it is not learning to read alone that will transcend these conditions, but what the learners read and for what purpose.

Learn to facilitate a transformation in our learners’ perspective through turning over valuable resources like literacy, access to a wide variety of empowering texts, and validating our learners’ experiences in the world as relevant through text-to-self and text-to-world connections.
