Multi-Sensory Activities and Games to Liven-Up Teaching Decoding/Phonics to Low-Level Readers

Description

Presenting a host of homemade and a few commercial games and activities to support decoding instruction for beginning and low-level readers:
 

  • Word building
  • Memory Game
  • Spelling chains with tiles or white boards
  • Fluency timing and charting for mastery
  • Sorting word cards for spellings for target sounds
  • For REWARDS students—white board chunking and spelling, building words from cards with word parts.
  • Language experience stories
  • Journal writing
  • Crazy Cards—commercial card games to reinforce letter/sound correspondences
  • Suggestions for how to create card games with Word.

 
I can also provide the list of resources I give out when doing low-literacy instruction workshops, which will include recommended instructional programs and reading materials.
