9/28/2009 - Firstrust Anchors Reading Writers Event
Firstrust announced its commitment to provide the anchor sponsorship for the upcoming Reading Writers event scheduled for December 7, 2009.  The event will be held at the Suzanne Roberts Theatre in collaboration with the Philadelphia Theatre Company.
8/26/2009 - Pennsylvania Non-profits United for a Fair Budget
Pennsylvania’s Center for Literacy was among the 70 non-profits that participated in the rally to end the Pa. budget stalemate on Wednesday, August 26 at the courthouse in Media, PA.  JoAnn Weinberger, president and executive director of CFL said CFL has over 81 learning sites throughout Philadelphia and Delaware counties and had to “displace over 100 students in Delaware county and close to 400 across the board,” due to the budget impasse.
6/23/2009 - Graduation 2009
An auditorium packed full with adoring family members, friends, and well-wishers experienced the overwhelming joy of CFL’s class of 2009 last night at their commencement ceremony.  By the end of the night, everyone in the auditorium learned of what an amazing accomplishment the graduates have made by earning their high school diplomas through the General Equivalency Diploma (GED) and Adult Diploma Programs (ADP).
5/11/2009 - SpeakOut 2009
Guests at the Center for Literacy’s (CFL) 21st annual SpeakOut on Monday, May 11 received an education.  This time, CFL students were the teachers.  Almost 200 people attended the event and received lessons on courage, perseverance, and the reality that 22 percent of Philadelphians are low literate, according to the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES).
2/13/2009 - A Best Place to Work
The Center for Literacy is among the best nonprofits to work for in the country. Opportunity Knocks announced its 2008 2nd Annual Peoples Choice Best Nonprofit to Work for Award and only two Philadelphia nonprofits were included.
