Tutor Stories
Nyzeer Kelsey
Nyzeer Kelsey has been a committed CFL volunteer tutor for over 10 years. In 1995, a recent high school graduate, Nyzeer assisted Ron Hopkins as a Math tutor at the Dunbar school four days a week. His reputation for being an effective instructor, ability to relate to students, and effective teaching style resulted in Nyzeer creating his own GED Math class two days a week (Monday & Wednesday) at the aforementioned site.
He then took his talents and abilities to the YMCA site (current Center in the Park) in Northwest Philadelphia where he tutored Tuesday & Thursday mornings. In addition, he held a special one-to-one advanced math concepts class on Monday & Wednesday afternoons at the Northwest Regional Library. Nyzeer volunteers every Wednesday evening at Bright Hope Baptist Church, and assists in all New Student Orientations throughout North and Northwest Philadelphia.
Nyzeer radiates dedication, care, concern, and an incredible level of commitment He respects others' opinions and differences, and always appears to have a smile upon his face. It's no wonder students "fight" for his time and attention and arrive 15 minutes early to be matched with him.
